Job Summary:
Seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Swim Coach to lead our summer school-aged swim team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about coaching, possess strong leadership skills, and have a background in competitive swimming. Responsible for attending daily practices, attending swim league board meetings, creating and facilitating workouts for swimmers, developing competitive and recreational swimmers, and maintaining swimmer safety.
Essential Functions:
- Plan & Conduct Practices: develop and implement effective and engaging swim team practices, focusing on skill development, technique improvement, and overall fitness.
- Athlete Development: provide guidance and support to swimmers in improving their individual and team performance.
- Skill Assessment: evaluate swimmers’ abilities and provide constructive feedback for improvement.
- Team Management: oversee all aspects of the swim team, including roster management, attendance tracking, and coordination of team events.
- Communication: maintain open and effective communication with swimmers, parents, and other coaching staff. Keep Community Center Manager informed about team activities, schedules, and any changes.
- Safety: ensure a safe and secure environment during practices and events. Implement and enforce safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Motivation & Team Spirit: foster a positive and motivating atmosphere to encourage team spirit and sportsmanship.
- Meet Participation: coordinate and attend meets, providing coaching support during competitions. Oversee parent volunteers, including meet duty assignments in advance prior to meets. Manages and assists in meet set up, including timing system(s), event entry, and personnel coordination.
- Professional Development: stay updated on latest coaching techniques, training methods, and safety standards in competitive swimming.
- Accreditation: Ensures team accreditations are up to date, and maintains any required certification(s) for coaching.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Community Center Manager
Schedule:
- N.E.W. League Summer Swim Season: First Meet is June 4th and Champs is Monday, July 14th.
- Practices: Monday-Friday mornings (before 12 PM)
- Meets: Wednesday nights starting at 5 PM
- Board Meetings & Coach Meetings: will vary, but typically held weekday evenings.
Physical Requirements:

- Associate must be able to work on feet for up to 8 hours a day.
- Associate must be able to sit in the same position for up to 8 hours a day consecutively.
- Associate may have to stand walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Associate is often required to sit and use his or her hands and fingers, to handle or feel.
- Associate may have to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
- Associate must talk and hear.
Qualifications, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
- Previous coaching experience, preferably with a focus on school-aged swimmers.
- Certified swim Coach (e.g. ASCA Level 1 or higher) is a plus.
- Familiarity with League Management Apps and Software (e.g. Go Motion/Team Unify) is a plus.
- Familiarity with Meet Management Apps and Software (e.g. Hytek) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of swim techniques, training principles, and competitive swimming rules.
- High school diploma and prior experience working in customer service.
- English language and excellent communications skills and interpersonal skills are required.
- Ability to take direction, motivate, and inspire.
- Must have problem solving abilities, be self-motivated and organized.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certified is required.
